Property Uninsured Subrogation Specialist

Afni is hiring a Property Uninsured Subrogation Specialist who is primarily responsible for the recovery of property subrogation claims from uninsured tortfeasors. Responsibilities include working with clients, insureds, courts, attorney’s, uninsured parties, and others, investigating facts surrounding the various types of losses and appropriately documenting files to achieve recovery of these subrogation claims. Cases are managed in accordance with state regulations and prescribed recovery best practices.

Potential to work from home. Candidates must live within commuting distance to our location. If you are hired for a remote/work at home position, we will provide the equipment required to fulfill the role.

What you will be doing:

The Subrogation Specialist may perform some or all of the duties listed below:

  • Respond professionally and promptly to calls and emails from clients, agents, insureds, adjusters, claimants, witnesses, attorneys, and experts.
  • Manage claims using a diary system in order to achieve a timely resolution.
  • Review and investigate claims thoroughly to identify and pursue all viable recovery avenues.
  • Identify and adhere to the various state statutes and regulations where the loss occurred.
  • Prepare and review the initial content of each file while documenting and tracking all ongoing verbal and written correspondence within our system as well as applicable client systems.
  • Process letters to responsible parties and authority requests to our clients.
  • Prepare appropriate paperwork for restitution requests.
  • Communicate effectively with insureds, adjusters, claimants, witnesses, attorneys, and experts in order to obtain and or provide necessary information.
  • Negotiate liability and set up payment arrangements with at-fault parties.

Property Uninsured Specific Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for handling uninsured Property Subrogation Claims.
  • Understanding of Homeowners, Renters, Condominium and Commercial policies, as well as fidelity and surety bonds.
  • Identifies relevant state statutes and researches applicable case law.
  • Interprets contracts and other legal documents such as HOA by-laws and residential leases.
  • Prepares cases for court ordered restitution.


What you will need:

  • High school diploma or GED. Some college coursework preferred
  • Three to five years of proven subrogation, claims or collection experience is preferred
  • Ability to type 30 WPM with 85% accuracy
  • Previous experience using Microsoft Office products
  • Successful completion of relevant insurance industry courses strongly preferred
  • Property, medical pay and workers’ compensation experience is preferred
  • Special investigative expertise preferred
  • Must possess above average oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Strong analyzing and negotiating techniques
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to multi task with attention to detail
  • Responds to internal and external requests in a timely manner and works to deliver quality service
  • Seeks clarification for unclear or missing information
  • Demonstrated reasoning and problem solving abilities
