HR Director for Compensation and Benefits

Specific Knowledge/Certification required:

  • · A four-year college degree and ten to twelve years more years of compensation or benefits experience in a managerial position.
  • · PHR/SPHR/GPHR/CHRP or CCP certifications preferred.
  • · Knowledge, understanding, and application of Federal and local employment laws.
  • · Strong organizational skills and the ability to pay attention to detail are required.
  • · Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • · Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, HRIS and corresponding benefits portal administration.
  • · Strong leadership competencies are required.
  • · Ability to handle multiple tasks and work with shifting priorities.
  • · Seeks collaborative solutions to address stakeholder issues.
  • · Builds cross functional relationships.
  • · Seeks and considers others point of view when dealing with unfamiliar situations.

Summary of duties and responsibilities:

  1. Analyze company compensation policies in relation to similar jobs in comparable industries or geographic areas and recommend changes as appropriate to establish and maintain competitive pay rates and ensure equity.
  2. Conduct job analysis to determine appropriate market pricing; review and approve salary increases and advise management on compensation actions for employees.
  3. Develops pay systems that are industry competitive and enable management to focus on and reward individual and group performance.
  4. Establish salary structures, develop salary budget, and prepare policies and procedures to insure the achievement of equitable and competitive employee compensation.
  5. Ensure programs are current with regard to trends, practices, and costs.
  6. Negotiate coverage services and costs with carriers.
  7. Establish operational objectives and work plans, and delegate assignments to subordinates.
  8. Ensure alignment of incentive/reward elements with culture, strategy, and operational imperatives.
  9. Manage programs such as: variable compensation plans, health insurance, life insurance, employee assistance, and other company plans and programs.
  10. Maintain knowledge of government regulations, benefit program trends, and practices among similar organizations.
  11. Work with accounting, legal, and tax departments to ensure accurate financial reporting, compliance with all tax laws.
  12. Maintain a working knowledge of international, federal, and local legislation influencing compensation and benefits.
  13. Monitor and evaluate the company's benefits programs, including insurance programs, retirement plans, sick leave, benefit time off, and vacation policies.
  14. Participate in development and administration of performance review system to ensure compliance with salary administration guidelines.
  15. Design and administer incentive, sales compensation/incentive/commission, and bonus plans.
  16. Oversee the development and implementation of new benefit policies and procedures; supervise the preparation and communication of information to current and former employees about benefit programs, procedures, changes, and government-mandated disclosures.
