Associate Voice Engineer

Position Purpose:

The Associate Voice Engineer under general supervision assists in the purchase, design, installation and support of the enterprise voice architecture, including IP and TDM PBX, Automated Call Distribution, and Unified Communications. Follows standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations involving readily identifiable problems. Assists in the planning of large-scale voice infrastructure projects through vendor comparison and costs studies. Requires extensive knowledge of IP and TDM based voice infrastructure, networks, and applications.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Implement and maintain complex voice solutions to achieve desired configuration, identify any discrepancies, report progress to project lead, and update architecture documentations.
  • Validate functionality by executing a test plan, document results, tracking, troubleshooting and repairing all failures, re-execute test plan.
  • Process tickets, implement service requests, correct factors associated with defined trouble or outages.
  • Analyze real-time network performance issues through various reporting and monitoring tools.
  • Perform software and hardware upgrades as assigned including planning, scheduling, testing, and coordination.
  • Identifies deficiencies of both technical issues and business processes, elevates risk to team lead and/or reporting management, and proposes innovative solutions to address issue.
  • Evaluate and document work required for a proposed solution(s).
  • Monitor component conditions to maintain optimal operational characteristics of the components.


Minimum Job Requirements (Education, Experience, Skills):

  • Associate degree in Computer Science, Engineering or relevant field, bachelor's degree preferred with 5 years of experience in the field of Collaboration platforms.
  • Support the following systems: Cisco UCCE, Cisco UCM, Verint
  • Cisco certification; CCNA, CCVP is highly desired. Cisco CCNA Voice certification is preferred.
  • ITIL certification is highly desired but not required.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with telephony infrastructure is required.
  • Ability to adhere to standard operating procedures and able to work within standard network maintenance windows.
  • Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi task with attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated reasoning and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to operate under tight deadlines and changing priorities is essential.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills (negotiation, coaching, team-building, positive thinking, can-do attitude and job flexibility) are required.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks is required.
  • Must be an assertive team player with positive attitude and high energy level.
  • Willing to work on shifting schedule.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift at least 25 pounds

Working Conditions and Environment:

Incumbent works in a temperature-controlled office environment. Incumbent sits at a desk during regularly scheduled work hours; answers and makes telephone calls using a standard telephone; types on a standard keyboard; read and comprehends information from a computer terminal and/or written resources. Incumbent is on call 24/7. Incumbent may be required to work beyond normal business hours to meet internal and external customer requirements. Evening and weekend work may be required. Some overnight travel may be required.
